The Design Process Module explored practical and conceptual
approaches. The practical processes are through tasks where I have produced
work in response to the brief. These practical responses explore photography,
drawings, and digital skills. The conceptual aspect is through subjectivity and
objectivity as well as researching into concrete and visual poetry. The concept
also entails a meaning behind the work which reflects the contextual research
collected.
Research stems from problem solving in addition to solving
the problem from a collective amount of research, exploring a variety of
approaches to find the appropriate outcome. Problem solving explores different
approaches which may not work as effectively compared to other
experimentations. For instance, in brief 01 the tasks explored were three
concepts. Some concepts worked effectively compared to others. Another way of
problem solving is collecting an amount of research then finding an issue
raised to solve. This is shown in brief 02 where the problem was justified
through research from exploring a certain thing.
The use of exploring different approaches shows a connection
and link which all form together. The outputs include a function and purpose.
For instance, the project brief, I have produced a poster for advertising a new
launch, the advertising a new launch is the problem and the poster is the
solving of the issue. The poster therefore has to function in communicating the
problem raised. However, another approach was through wayfinding, where the function
was the outcome showing one place to another.
Exploring context structures the reason and concept behind
each design. The context is relevant as the projects explore this information.
Other contextual approaches are through relevant designers and existing work
out in the industry. For instance, in Brief 01 I explored existing sign systems
and then researched into conceptual designers. The purpose of this is to expand
knowledge towards design and adapt inspiration from this research.
The projects records investigation through different
approaches. The approaches are through time lapse, sketchbooks and blogs. The
work is documented in sketchbooks through grid methods and note form. This is
then developed further to produce blogs. To present the projects, this is shown
through design boards, where they will be clear and include grid methods when selecting
work from blogs and sketchbooks.
The work produced is developed further through feedback and
critiques. This process helps refine work and includes development processes.
It also introduces different ways and methods of working. For instance, this
brief has gained my technical skills with Illustrator, as the final outcomes
were produced on Illustrator and other digital software’s. This has developed
my practise as projects have a purpose and include context to fit in with that
theme and requirement.
Through out this project, I have gained skills on research and have gained skills to approach projects in different ways which I wouldn't have chosen. This project has developed my practise as I have gained further technical skills however still need to improve on this. The writing aspect is challenging to me, however contextual research into reading into other practises has helped me progress and develop this skill. My practise has developed through fitting criteria and themes and applying context which I haven't done in the past. Research into specific areas helps gain more ideas and improves the outcomes.
