Stress

A very real modern epidemic

Stress kills creativity. Start developing good habits: drink chamomile tea, go for a wal, disconnect from technology, sleep well, eat well, breathe, learn your stress signs, share with friends, practise mindfulness meditation.

Anxiety is a fear or nervousness about what might happen. An abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physiological signs. These signs may be sweating, tension, and increased pulse. By doubt concerning the reality and nature of the threat, and by self-doubt about one’s capacity to cope with it.

Anxiety is established through the words: might, doubt and self-doubt.

Stress within the creative industry

The fear of people rejecting or criticizing your work, perhaps your work may be misunderstood. The fear of there being no market for your own creativity and originality. Therefore, results to people giving up in the art industry. The competition is high within the art industry, so the fear of someone people better than you.

The amount of effort, time and money is wasted if it all fails in the end. You’re afraid of being neglected.

Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

The response addresses how to overcome the fear within the creative industry.

“Recognizing that people’s reactions don’t belong to you is the only sane way to create. If people enjoy what you’ve created, terrific. If people ignore what you’ve created, too bad. If people misunderstand what you’ve created, don’t sweat it. Stubbornly continue making yours.”

Schools are introducing meditation to reduce stress from an early age.

Cal Newport

“To learn requires intense concentration”

Concentration is applied to meditation. Meditation will help concentration.

The stress Report explores how stress isn’t the problem it’s how we view it.

“Feel the fear and do it anyway”

Books based on stress:

The PPP session included us to right down our feelings of how we felt at the beginning of the course.

Time

Time Management

Managing time within the time set. The creative process of time, leaving work till the last minute. Does this leave time to accomplish everything… the answer is no!

Studying Extended Diploma, we worked with short briefs and deadlines within the year. During this time period, I gained time management skills. By applying a good mix of everything to fit a healthy lifestyle.

Leaving things last minute results to stress and not developing your work further to develop as a designer.

Don’t create time as the enemy, create it as a friend a privilege to be spending this time as a developing designer.

“You will sometimes need to burn the midnight oil. But sometimes can’t become the norm.”- The Stress Report, The Do lectures.

“What is a start up without bleary-eyed, junk food-fuelled, balls-to the- wall days and sleepless, caffeine-fuelled, relationship-stressing nights?... A place that’s a lot more enjoyable to work at.”- Ev Williams, Co-Founder of Medium

Trust+Balance+Purpose+Culture+Happiness=The Future of Work – The Stress Report, The Do Lectures.

“I do everything I can to anticipate stressful situations and avoid them at all costs. I lan meticulously, allowing sufficient time for everything to happen” Anthony Burrill

The theory behind work by Michael Sippey

First make a list of things to do. Then Prioritize the list. Do the things on the list, in order.

To Do List:

Have to do:

·      Wake up
·      Go to University
·      Clean clothes
·      Cook Dinner
·      Clean my room and Bathroom
·      Go food shopping
·      Coursework

Want to do:
·      Travel
·      Youtube channel
·      Draw recreationally
·      Create my own paintings
·      Photography
·      Shop

To maintain all of these requirements, I will ensure I create a list of what I need to achieve throughout the week.

Another type I do is setting myself a time period to finish something. If I don’t finish it, I then move onto the next topic so I don’t get more behind.

Inspiration

Where do artist start their identity? It is through inspiration.

“Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” – Charles Caleb Colton

Bon Jovi “The only art I’ll ever study is stuff that I can steal from.”

“Start copying what you love. Copy copy copy copy. At the endof the copy you will find yourself.” Yoji Yamamoto (fashion designer)

Kanye West inspiration is well thought, and there is a final concept.

Exploring into artists and their inspirations

Nicki Minaj inspiration for her quirky, loud character is through the oriental theme.

Nicki Minaj was always inspired by the Japanese Culture. The inspiration for her image has come from elements from this culture. Where the designers have modified it to create a brand and an identity which is memorable and individual.

Networking
Share information through the internet. This is through blogging. Blogging should include subjective feedback. Feedback does not have to be taken onboard. Blogs should be a progression as a designer and include what interests you. It should also include WHY you have done something with full analysis.

How do you approach the creative industry?

Use the internet as a tool. Who are you talking to? People will find your work interesting and will create more awareness. Like minds are interesting this means same wavelength.

Contact people you are interests in, send a letter, emails, detective work. Research into blogs, persona blogs. It's never too early.

Progression through life learning skills; swimming, reading and writing.

The circle within the industry is the circe of trust. More you get involved, the more you will be involved.

"I like it" is not constructive. Allowing acceptance feedback. Work and develop the issue. Investigating the issue. Turning negative into constructive positive.

Share your information, this is beneficial. This will open a dialogue to people. explore Books and websites and online portfolios. Ask clients who else they are talking to to expand your knowledge on practises.

Linked in is a good source for sharing your work and creating awareness.

Where do your inspirations stem from?

cultural heritage, this is through Indian patterns, collecting fabrics, Indian animals. Magazines such as Asiana magazine. Animals is a huge inspiration, visiting tropical world in Leeds. Barcelona is an inspiration through the graffiti and street art. Collecting brochures from galleries and everyday journeys. Instagram and youtube is an inspiration. Fashion blogs: exploring new trends, clothes, makeup looks.
L7M is an inspiration it is one of my aims to create my own street art.

Agnes Cecile is my favourite Youtuber as she creates drawings and has received 1 million vies. My favourite painting is monet- waterlilies.

My favourite book is Romeo and Juliet by William Shkaespeare as it is compassionate and highly emotive.

My favourite quote: A certain darkness is needed to see the stars.
