Fashion Look-book: Research and initial ideas

Brief: To create a fashion look-book which will be sent to fashion companies when applying for work placements.

Research

Pretty Little Thing Fashion Look-Book

The Pretty Little Thing Look-book was the most successful in the terms of creating a sense of character. The 3-D type works effectively, and creates a trendy aesthetic. I could possible experiment with 3-D for my final zine. The use of the clothes being categorised works effectively in organising content.

Missguided Look-book

The Misguided Look-Book is the least successful, as I've noticed they tend to use the same layouts and type. The layouts are successful however could be developed further with type or possibly illustration to add more character towards the look-book.

Nike Look-Book

The Nike look-book focuses most on photography and incorporates more of a clean finish which works effectively. I particularly like the type for the border. I will use this concept for designing layouts.

Primary Images

These images were developed further from my past project, "Tone it down". The photographs were created with a better lens (45 mm) for my camera. The setting was on creative auto which made the images more defined and allowed the background to be burred. This shoot was a location shot, so different areas in Leeds were experimented within the photography. A contact sheet was created of the best shots. I developed this photos further by using the levels and contrast and brightness effect on Photoshop.

Initial Ideas

Thumbnail sketches were created in my sketchbook to order the pictures into categories. This also helped bring a concept towards the zine. The concept is the idea of being confused about what to wear, you normally feel you have nothing to wear. Hence the name, "Nothing to wear". The clothes were organised into sections to help inspire the target market. The target market will be females aimed at 16-25 year olds.

I then developed these ideas on Illustrator. I decided to go with a serif typeface as this will go with the photography images more. The typeface used is Bodoni. I developed this typeface further by the 3D effect tool on Illustrator. This helped bring a brand identity.

Initial Ideas for the front cover

I wanted the front cover to promote Shanice as she is an emerging influencer and blogger in the fashion industry. I used the Bodoni typeface to create a sense of a title for the zine. This will create a high-end approach towards the zine cover. I researched in collaboration look-books and decided to create a sense of a brand identity for Shanice. I experimented with different type layouts to see which layout would be the most engaging.
