Experimentation for prototypes and the refinement samples in response to feedback.
The first idea was to create an album cover.
Album cover:
The album cover is influenced by the artist's main features. The layout is perceived as an angel, relating to the word Heaven which the album is called. The feedback given was this may be hard to communicate who the album is for. The artist is not formed yet, to create a design which is very abstract. To refine this perhaps include more information on who the artist is, ensuring the type is bold and memorable. The Bodoni typeface works well with the fashion like elements, however perhaps work with a wider kerning, to create more space and fluent layout. The beard could be refined further by perhaps using the artist's original beard rather than an illustration as this may be hard to communicate. Keep a consistent colour palette throughout s this complicates the design. The circle and line create the aesthetic of a person, perhaps alter these elements.
Responding to feedback
Refinements:
The Kerning was altered with the word Heaven. It allows more space and creates a better composition layout. The circle is the same colour palette compared to the beard. The type at the bottom creates a better communication on who the artist is. The Helvetica typeface creates a modern, contemporary feel towards the album cover which works effectively. To develop this further perhaps simplify the design by just using the aspect of the beard and 'Serpentwithfeet'. The beard could act as a logo perhaps. The problem with this mock up is album covers are less recognised in the modern day. Therefore this is the least successful compared to the other two mock ups.
The second idea is to create a logo.
Logo
The logo type is influenced by black lettering. The typeface includes the aesthetic of a serpent, including pattern from a serpent's skin. The feedback given was there was a lack of concept. Perhaps include the context of 'Serpentwithfeet' and create an illustration in response to that. The illustration could be quirky, and innovative. Explore more of an idea through an illustrative format. The purple was applied to include the idea of unity.
The refinement illustration is more successful as it includes more of a concept which relates to the context. The colour pink was applied influenced by Serpentwithfeet's beard. The pink background is influenced through clouds to introduce the theme of heaven and dreamlike nature.
The third idea is to create a brand.
Branding
Thumbnails which show development through brainstorming ideas. The e is influenced through greek lettering as well as intruding the concept of feet, as the pair of E's create the illusion of feet. The feedback given was to apply this idea to all the Es within the text as there is an equal number. Helvetica works effectively as it is more contemporary and will be more accepted in popular culture.
Exploring Illustration
Creating illustration relating the Barthes theory on role models. The feedback given was to explore a wide range of media with colour. Which mediums work effectively.
The development process shows watercolour being used. However the problem with this illustration is may be hard to recognise who the artist is as he is not established yet. Therefore perhaps photo montage may work better for the final outcome. The feedback given was the idea of a role model works effective but perhaps apply a different use of media. The feedback also stated where the illustration would be placed. Perhaps include more information about the artist to create a better communication. Perhaps include a title.
