Collaterals: Designing Fashion Tags
The concept relates to Edward Said's (1978) theory of division. The Fashion Tags will establish each stereotypical category from the East: Black, Arab, Asian.
This concept shows the theory of how the West perceive the East in a stereotypical manner (Said, 1978).
The designs of the fashion Tags act as a metaphor, conveying the message of people labelling a person in a certain category due to diversity.
The "black" layout shows the idea of the word being played with, to suggest this idea of ignorance and stereotypical nature.
The colour scheme relates to the Primary colour palette, the use of baby pink works effectively for creating the idea of an identity and relating it to the idea of one, which was suggested in the critique.
The typeface, Aktiv Grotesk, is applied in an Italic format to create the idea of migration and movement. It also conveys the idea that we need to push societies views on race forward.
Development
The designs were developed further by creating the same aesthetics Graphically, but incorporating different theories. For instance the "too sensitive" theory in Critical Race Theory was explored.
This design shows the Western's perception on Racial Discrimination. It emphasises the stereotypical approach towards Racial Discrimination. It relates to the idea of people being "too sensitive", it is to create an idea of contrasting perhaps a racial experience next to this statement, which may change peoples opinions and views about race discrimination.
Feedback was giving to perhaps use this minimalistic colour scheme as it conveys the message as one and create a logo with this aesthetics, as this was seen as successful.
Taking the feedback on board, I created fashion tags which the Logo. The format being printed on a transparent material to create this idea of people being ignorant.
Applying Collaterals into Context
The logo was printed on an Organza fabric to relate to this idea of ignorance. To develop these tags further perhaps include a size of the tops.
