Using Illustrator to create layouts
With this composition I have included the song 'Versace' as it relates to the top the artist is wearing. The words are lyrics from the verse song to relate to the imagery as well as the audience creating links. The audience will be creative so they will be identify the visual energy. The use of the stars also act as a sense of an illusion is creates that psychedelic nature. The layout is varied perhaps some sections are unreadable this relates to the idea of fragmentation.
This piece relates to the crime aspect of Migos. The gold chains were once stolen as well as the picture on the right being the trios place, where they live. The image includes words from a headline of their arrest charge. This emphasise the crime within trap culture. The outline typeface relates to the vintage 1960s aspect of psychedelia. The crossed out 'marijuana' relates to the idea of it being illegal, it shows the rebellion of trap culture.
This layout is contrast of a minimalistic approach, to create a more editorial finish. The use of pattern creates this idea of illusion. During the critique this image could be developed further by perhaps including songs which relate to the album title "Culture II" so there is a link between the two images. However the word Culture acts well as it emphasises the culture of trap, as this piece is more cultural.
During the critique, this page could've been developed further by perhaps. including a constant typeface as well as including more songs from their current album.
During the critique this composition was the most successful. The use of scale and size works effectively. The concept of type being applied over images creates the idea of breaking the rules. The layout is minimal but works effectively as it relates to the contextual examples. During the critique it was noted the stars could be used less to create a more fluent approach of minimalistic composition.
The images relates to the type as a sense of a metaphor. This relates t the idea of trap being more gruesome and shocking. The layout is influenced through the Kanye West example. This example helps break up the publication, however during the critique t was noted this composition stands out more compared to the other examples as it is a different layout; type is used a lot more. The type relates to the images, there is more concept to the piece compared to the other examples.
The use of crossing out the word 'offended' conveys the idea of there being no rules in trap, the idea of arrogance and the idea of not caring. The album '21 XXX' created a pattern through reflection, this creates an interesting pattern which makes the composition more visually exciting through symbols and semantics. The '21 Savage' uses a wider space to create a sense of diversity. The use of university typeface keeps the piece contemporary, as well as relating to a list of songs through a condensed typeface.
This piece relates to the concept of a dark event which has occurred. This incident highlights the horror and serious consequences which has happened in trap culture. This piece design wise is not as powerful compared to the others, however the message and marking something in history is more symbolic. The concept of crossing out 'Young Jeezy' shows the impact of the situation and how Gucci Mane has gained more recognition from the insistent. The layout is reflected, perhaps a more centred composition would of worked more effectively, this design could be developed further.
This design includes a graffiti background taken from the Urban culture. The design is more illustrative however altered on photoshop. The background relates to the artist as this artist is more joyful, the artists music includes a psychedelic sound into trap music, therefore this imagery creates more feeling and emotion.
The composition of layering relates to the theme of the design, there is more personality and originality into this design which has worked more effectively.
This composition is more minimal to create a more fluent flow through out the publication to relate to the other compositions.
The use of the bleak nature relates to the artists aesthetic of creating a more bleak identity. The use of the singer being more influenced through fashion has implicated the design to be more fashion editorial, therefore the design is more minimal compared to the other designs. During the critique this design was successful through the lists of songs and the fluent typeface through out the composition.
Creating a Title Page
During the feedback, this could be developed further by creating a Bodoni typeface for the 'Pretty girls' to relate to context. It will also show the contrast of what 2-Chainz is trying to portray. During the Critique, it was mentioned the stars was unneeded, however in my opinion it helps link all the pages together as well as relating to context of America.
Using Photoshop
For this experimentation, this was created through the use of black marker being influenced by graffiti. the use of pink ink relates to the theme of pink as well as creating a more messy approach conveyed through trap culture.
Using InDesign
Creating a booklet/order in Indesign
After creating the layouts, the layouts were organised into an order. The order was influenced through Noisy Atalanta documentary.
When designing, I was unsure what stitch I wanted. During format it was stated for a saddle stitch the pages had to add up to 28 pages. For future I will ensure I will create the right amount of pages.
The using InDesign the pages had to be either TIFF. or PSD. at 300pi. in a CMYK quality. Therefore the Duotone images had to be converted back into CMYK after the effect.
I had to consider Format as the print will use high contrast of colour. Therefore a better quality finish will be needed.
