The brief was to mislead the audience to believing the thing is true. This will be done through false advertisement with existing brands, fake brands, or fake campaigns.
Research
An example of this is the Mcdonalds Fake Poster Prank.
The two individuals placed a poster into McDonalds to prove a point about the lack of representation of asians within advertisement.
The motivation behind the prank, Maraville explains over a youtube video where they recorded the prank. Maraville discusses how there isn't a lot of representation of asians within the media. The purpose of the poster was to change the way how media uses identity within advertisement. The message is to signify that all races deserve recognition.
The individuals dressed up as McDonald's workers and put up the poster on an empty wall. The image stayed up for 51 days where McDonalds owners realised after a tweet the individuals uploaded. McDonalds supports the message that was represented and offered £25,000 as well as a marketing deal given to the two individuals who started the prank.
Group work
Our task was to deliver a group representation from the week's brief.
Group members:
Naaila Hussein, Hugo Iglis, Megan Keighley, Rebecca Jones
Rational
The rational was to create a problem, where Nao (an artist who is performing at Leeds Beckett this year) is looking for dancers, make-up artists, and models to feature and perform for her new music video.
The target market will be aimed at students, mainly aimed at the Dance Academy in Leeds.
The purpose of doing this is for humour, by receiving headshots of individuals.
What do you need to achieve to do, to achieve your outcome?
Visiting campuses which aim at Dance and Makeup artist students such as, Northern School of Dance. As well as visiting bigger institutions: Leeds Beckett, Leeds University and Leeds Arts University. As these institutions carry out extra curriculum such as Dance societies. Nao will be performing at Leeds Beckett, so this mistruth will appear more believable.
How thoroughly have you researched?
The problem is finding dancers, Headshots of Model and Makeup Artists. The audience is intended as Nao's target market aims at students. Potential pit falls is the lie coming out.
The Output will be flyers, posters, Emails. The Graphic design content will be both traditional as well as digital to send out the message for finding models, dancers and make-up artists.
The task will be recorded through film photography. Information for the submission will be submitted through email, this will show how many submissions there are.

Group contribution
My role in the group, was to design the posters and flyers. Nao's recent tour is the Saturn tour. The idea process was influenced by space, as well as finding imagery with balloons to explore the theme of helium which relating to the concept of space. The first image includes a heavy background of space and the idea of the 'Milky Way'. On Photoshop a gradient fill was applied on top of the space imagery to create a milky aesthetic. The colours are similar to Nao's outfit, as a designer I was worried this would clash, however this creates more connection towards the composition piece. The typeface for 'seeking models' was applied through marker pen, and then developed further using photoshop by inverting the colour as well as decreasing negative space: using the magic wand tool. The layout is influenced through modern editorial to establish Graphic Design for an emerging artist. The logo was created on Illustrator, where I traced over the original logo and changed the colour to yellow to create a youthful approach. The 'Paid Role' typeface is in Universe to relate to the idea of space, as well as creating a bold, modern type to catch the targeted audience's attention.
This design is more simplified, taken from the feedback from the group meeting. During the critique, it was stated that the piece could be developed further by designing the logo and inverting it into black. This would allow the composition to flow better. The image of Nao's outfit being blue makes the artist stand out and addresses the message further, which will help persuade the audience to believe the mistruth. The design could be improved by improving the magic wand tool, so the image looked more blended into the background, as the outline looks pixelated. Overall this piece was the second best as the message was clear and made the artist stand out more. However, in my opinion, I felt the design was too plain and simple, it needed to be developed further.
This design was stated the most successful from the group meeting. The black background relates to the idea of space as well as the white symbolising stars in the galaxy sky. The black background with white font creates a contemporary, urban finish towards the poster design. The background made Nao stand out more which will help grab the audience's attention. During the critique it was stated to add more logos to make the poster more believable as well as moving the logo to the bottom of the poster, as this was hard to communicate. The logos which needed to be included are: Little Tokyo Recordings, Sony, RCA and Nao. The image of Nao is more blended into the background, therefore had a much more better quality finish. The universe typeface relates to the concept of space as well as conveying a youthful, urban feel towards the poster.
Design Development
The design was developed further by taking the feedback onboard and applying the logos in a black format. This creates the piece to flow well and link to the black typeface.
During the feedback, this piece was the most successful however, the type for 'little Tokyo Recordings' makes the composition looked over packed. The feedback was to create more of minimalistic approach to communicate the message better in a simpler format. This would therefore help persuade the target market and communicate the message better towards the audience.
Taking the feedback onboard, I designed the layouts again allowing more room for the logos. However the logos could have been more spaced out in a grid format, using a straight line to make the poster more concise. The typeface could have been more larger to communicate the information clearer. The poster is not text heavy and focuses on the artist, this was inspired by popular culture, to lure the audience in.

Design Development
Design development included logos, however during the critique it was stated to apply a current flow of colours for all the logos. As the Sony logo looked out of place. It was also stated, instead of having three separate posters, apply 'looking for models, make-up artists, and dancers' on one poster rather than it being separated.
Design development, creating one poster rather than three. This was stated as more successful as it will open up the target market rather than being specific. To develop this design further, the logos will be a constant colour through out.
Initial idea concept
This design creates a nostalgic approach from a previous video image for Nao's recent music video. The colour pink creates a different approach which perhaps will relate to the target market more. However during the critique, it was stated this did not communicate the message as well, compared the the two previous designs.
The first design, designed by myself, was the most successful however lacked information. Therefore Megan decided to design the compositions into a flyer format with a front and back to inform the audience of the event.
Final Designs
The flyer designs include a front and back to give the audience more information about Nao and what they are looking for. The typeface was constant from the front and back relating to Nao's branding. The format will be printed A5 size on a gloss finish to communicate a flyer.
Final Design for the Poster
This design was chosen as the most successful as it included all the information which was needed. The feedback given was the poster was textual heavy, however as a team we agreed more information was needed for the posters. The logo 'Nao' would draw the audience in. The logos are more consistent and larger to make the posters look more believable.
Format
The format was printed onto a thin gloss paper, printed front and back. This was successful and looked very believable.
The format for the posters were a matt finish on thick paper. This was not as successful and would have looked more believable on a gloss finish to make the flyers and posters more consistent.
The final outcomes. The next stage was to locate these flyers and posters in locations which target at University students. These posters were hung up around Leeds Beckett, Leeds University, Leeds Art University, and the Northern Dance Academy.
Hugo Iglis created a video for how we would present and record our week.
Stills from the video produced
This experience helped me progress my practice in working in a group. As an individual, I get along with people however in my previous group work I have felt afraid to contribute my work. This group work, I have developed confidence within my own work, resulting to my poster being picked to promote the message. I also gained new skills on Photoshop using the magic wand tool.
Overall, the project got one response. The issue with this brief is the time as well as finding other location in Leeds where we could promote the message better, rather than just promoting it in Universities. The message behind this brief shows the power of a logo and the role it has, that people will believe anything if it comes from a popular brand. This shows the power of design and how important the role of a logo is.
