Analysis of an Existing Book

Perfect bind including saddle stitch.

The front cover includes a 1/4 of an inch fold. This fold has created a smooth inner hinge. The author is laid out at the top however in a smaller typeface. The title is eye-catching through the bold, serif typeface. The serif typeface is sued to emphasise a political, traditional, historical concept. The monochrome colour scheme creates an informative approach towards the illustration. This illustrations are the main feature and are used for image in a character form to create persona.

The first page is a title page, this is simple and minimalistic to empahsis the title and the context of the book.

The spine is attached through glueing the separate binds together. The bind is tight and smooth. The content inside is in a comic book layout. Mainly focusing on images. The blocked content includes breaks inside to speed out heavy content.

This idea of contrasted heavy content with less could be adapting into the final publication as the content is heavy. This could be through title pages to show a sense of organisation.

The perfect bind will be considered as it uses glue to attach many pages.

The format of the paper is a newspaper feel, this perhaps related to historical records. Paper format will be considered with the publication design. A thinner paper will perhaps be more appropriate for the design as there is a lot pages for the final outcome.

To improve the book perhaps varying the lay out so it becomes less familiar through out the book.
