Editing
Designing a Front Cover. The initial design included a title as well as the authors name. however, the aesthetic looked more of a book rather than a magazine. It also went against the clients request of a plain cover for the boutique magazine. During the crit, the name of the author could be applied on the credit page. As well as the title being placed on the title page.
The development shows the added barcode with the stated price as this was forgotten on the initial design. The barcode includes the title of 'adolescence' , the concept of this shows the concept of youth and conveying it in metaphoric manner. The use of the adolescence being placed in the corner conveys isolation. The lower case 'a' creates more of a concept as it represents the idea of youth.
The colour scheme was taken from the Suburban section of the publication. The colour was produced as a screen print then was altered and refined on Photoshop. The format was printed onto a gloss finish of 200gsm
However when folding the gloss paper created the ink to peel. During the crit, some people stated it reflected the theme of a time capsule. however as a designer, in future I will print onto a matt finish to reduce this issue. The measurements of the folds had to be measured accurately. A few samples were measured incorrectly.
The credit page initially did not state the designer and author. I decided to place it on the credit page to allow the design of the front cover and title page to be simple and emphasise the concept of youth. This idea was taken during feedback received.
Problems occurred using Indesign
Due to the bleed being left on the text was cut off. In future, I will consider the use of the spine, as when bound this may be hard to read as the glue will take a couple of mm off.
Editing with Photoshop, until identify the issue of InDesign and the bleed. Therefore for the final print out, the print out was without bleed. The layout included planning the back designs to printed on aswell.
